Bridgehampton oceanfront modern from 1980 quickly goes into contract

After just three months, this $21.5M oceanfront home has found a buyer

Just three months ago, this oceanfront home in Bridgehampton at 79 Surfside Drive listed under Saunders Real Estate agent Terry Cohen for a confident $21.5 million. Even though our commenters thought that the asking price was too high, the home has found a buyer and is currently in contract.

Since the property hasn’t closed, a final sales price hasn’t yet been revealed.

Built in 1980, the home stands just 2,000 square feet in size with four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and two half-bathrooms. But the relatively small oceanside contemporary can be torn down to make room for a much larger 10,000-square-foot estate plus a waterside pool and decking, according to the listing.

Outside, the 1.5-acre property has 140 feet of direct ocean frontage.

When the home first went on the market, we were surprised to see that it had the same asking price as its oceanfront neighbor at 155 Surfside Drive—a 3,500-square-foot house on 1.3 acres of land with 130 feet of ocean frontage. Also built in the ’80s, that home is not only larger, but needed less work.

We’re thinking that the purchase here was all in the land value rather than the existing structure, and that the buyer is interested in replacing the current residence with a brand new East End retreat.
