Tuckahoe Road closes for U.S. Open

Southampton is preparing for the major golf event

Tuckahoe Road is officially closed for the U.S. Open, which starts on Monday. The stop-and-go traffic light at the intersection of Tuckahoe Road and County Road 39 in Southampton is currently blinking a yellow light with the road being closed down in anticipation for the major sporting event. Tuckahoe Road will be closed until June 21, reports 27east.

A partnership between the USGA and the LIRR has brought a temporary train station to Shinnecock Hills that will operate during the length of the event, which runs from June 11 to June 17, with gates at the course opening at 6 a.m. each day. The LIRR wrote on their special train schedule for the U.S. Open the following:

In order to accommodate special U.S. Open trains, some train schedules were adjusted and some rush hour trains may experience delays. Buses will replace some regularly scheduled trains. We ask for our customers’ patience during this special week for Long Island.

Even though the train station is on the opposite side of County Road 39 from the Shinnecock Hills Golf Course, visitors won’t need to worry about crossing the dangerous major roadway. A walking bridge was erected last month to connect pedestrians to the golf course from the Shinnecock train station.

A variable message sign has been placed on County Road 39 to remind locals and visitors that the U.S. Open starts on Monday and to expect delays.
