Earlier this month, the East Hampton Town Board approved a residents-only parking restriction in the westernmost parking lot of Ditch Plains beach in Montauk, reports The East Hampton Star and 27east.
The Montauk Citizens Advisory Committee brought the proposal to the Town Board in earlier this year and it was approved on Thursday, June 21—the restriction will be in effect for the entire year, 24 hours per day.
Town Councilman David Lys told 27east that the purpose of the locals-only restriction is to “prioritize the people of Montauk.”
Other proposals that had been approved at the same time include requiring resident or nonresident parking permits for cars at the Otis Road lot (often referred to as the Dirt Lot), and prohibiting parking trailers at all three Ditch Plains parking lots.
