While a shark sighting off the coast of Montauk isn’t totally uncommon, they’re more rare if you go further west. Each summer, there’s a rumored shark sighting at some point—possibly started by locals trying to give weekenders a fright.
Last summer, beach-goers thought they saw some sharks at Sagg Main Beach and the Southampton Town Parks Department promptly shut down four beaches just in case they were at risk for a Hamptons edition of Jaws. Whether or not they were actually sharks was never really confirmed, but the lifeguard thought it might have been a large fish while others were thinking dolphins were to blame.
So we want to hear from our readers: Do you think there’s going to be a real shark sighting this summer? Let us know in the comments.
