Open thread: What kind of traffic are you anticipating this Memorial Day Weekend in the Hamptons?

The traffic has been getting worse for weeks

Memorial Day Weekend in the Hamptons will always bring a significant increase in traffic. I remember two summers ago the highway was already backed up by 5:30 a.m. in Southampton.

And while Friday and Saturday are supposed to get into the 70s on the East End, rain is expected from Saturday into Sunday, and right now Monday only has an expected high in the mid-60s.

The morning traffic has been getting notably worse for the last month or so, and this week was markedly bad. But we want to reach out to readers and ask what they think: Even though the weather isn’t supposed to be all that great this holiday weekend, how bad are you expecting the traffic to be?

Further, do you have any tips for those who are traveling out to the East End maybe for the first time? What do you find is the best way to avoid traffic in the Hamptons?
