An 8,000-square-foot “cottage” that was built back in 1895—designed by renowned architect Grosvenor Atterbury and built by students of William Merritt Chase—has become available to rent for the entire summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day for $275,000.

Inside, there are six bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms, sited on 3.5 acres of land in the Shinnecock Hills neighborhood of Southampton at 56 Ridge Road. Located between Route 27 and Montauk Highway, the property is about five miles from village shops and restaurants, and about the same distance from the ocean at Cooper’s Beach.

Restored in 2006, the home boasts six fireplaces, white bead board, dark burnished floors, built-ins, window seats, and double-Dutch doors throughout.

The living room has the original fireplace and beamed ceilings, while the renovated kitchen has marble countertops, a butcher-block center island, and stainless steel appliances. A butler’s pantry sits adjacent to the dining room.

On the second level, the primary master suite features window seating, a fireplace, walk-in closets, and a marble bathroom, while a secondary master suite also has a fireplace and window seating in addition to a sitting room.

Tenants will enjoy the outdoors this summer with an sundeck off the third level, an enclosed patio that opens to the exterior gardens, a stone dining patio with a trellis on one side and a box garden on the other, and a sunroom off the pantry.

The property’s landscaping was designed by Edwina von Gal, whose client list includes names like Calvin Klein, Ina Garten, and Cindy Sherman. Von Gal launched an East Hampton-based nonprofit in 2013 called the Perfect Earth Project with a mission to stop the use of chemicals and toxins in gardens and landscaping.

In 2012, the home sold for $6.15 million.

Represented by Sotheby’s International Realty agent, Angela Boyer-Stump, the property is also available to rent from July to Labor Day for $225,000, from August to Labor Day for $125,000, for the month of July for $100,000, or for just the month of June for $75,000.
