That makes this home older than the Declaration of Independence

This 1,519-square-foot Shelter Island home has been around since 1770—making it older than the United States Declaration of Independence. Even though the home is a timely 248 years old, it’s been renovated to bring it into the 21st century, recently with new windows, siding, a new roof, wiring and plumbing, and updates to the kitchen and bathrooms.

There are just two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms inside the home—making this a great summer getaway, especially since it’s sited on a private acre and a half of land.

Inside, one will find a brick fireplace, wide plank floors, a wood stove, marble counter tops in the kitchen, and an ensuite master bedroom.

Sited at 24 Ram Island Road, the property is well over an acre and could accommodate an another house and a pool. Future residents might consider making the historic structure a guest house and building a larger home on the property as the main house.
