A winter storm warning is in effect for Southeast Suffolk County from 6 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 21, to 6 a.m. tomorrow, March 22, escalating from a winter storm watch that was issued yesterday. According to the warning issued by the National Weather Service, residents can expect between 6 and 12 inches of snow on the twin forks.
Precipitation will start in the morning as rain and snow and become worse in the afternoon, becoming snow and sleet. The weather is expected to make travel difficult due to physical hazards as well as decreased visibility.
Wind gusts could reach up to 49 mph.
