Rachael Ray cut the asking price of her Southampton property and Ralph Lauren is expanding his Montauk compound

The year is winding down and 2018 is about to come to a close. Each year, the Hamptons real estate scene bears witness to celebrity home sales, purchases, and rentals. In 2018, in addition to movie stars and fashion designers buying and selling South Fork properties, politics also had an influence over the celebrity real estate market on the East End.


Harvey Weinstein sold his Amagansett house at a loss

At the very beginning of the year, Harvey Weinstein’s bayfront house in Amagansett sold for $10 million. He purchased the 9,000-square-foot home in 2014 for $11.65 million under the company Taisho Holdings, Inc. In 2016, he was asking $13.5 million for it.


Anthony Scaramucci buys and sells

In 2017, former White House communications director, Anthony Scaramucci, purchased a Joe Farrell-designed home in Water Mill for $8.2 million. Nine months after buying, Scaramucci and his wife Deidre Ball put the 30 Lawrence Court home back on the market for around $9 million. (But the sales listing is no longer available.)

The couple then listed their North Sea house near the bay for $4 million.


Rachael Ray tries to sell her Southampton compound

Celebrity chef Rachael Ray listed her Southampton home near the Shinnecock Golf Course for $4,699,000 in May, down from the $4.9 million it was asking at the beginning of the calendar year. She then continued to cut the asking price and even split the 6-acre compound into two different parcels to try to sell it. Right now, the whole compound is on the market for $4 million.


The Montauk house that once belonged to Bernie Madoff went up for sale

What was once Bernie Madoff’s oceanfront Montauk home—which was seized by the government in 2009—went up for sale for $21 million in April of this year. Steve and Daryl Roth purchased the home above ask for $9.4 million the same year Madoff lost the estate.


Real Housewife Countess Luann put her Sag Harbor house on the market

Reality star Luann de Lesseps from the Real Housewives of New York listed her Sag Harbor house for $6.25 million, but the listing has since been removed. According to the countess’s Instagram, she might be relocating to a place in the Catskills.


Ralph Lauren is expanding his Montauk compound

The oceanfront Montauk house that once belonged to late playwright Edward Albee (whose resume includes titles like Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Seascape) went up for sale with a $20 million asking price in July. By December, it was reported that fashion designer Ralph Lauren was in contract to purchase the nearly 3-acre property.

Lauren already owns the properties on either side of Albee’s estate.


Golfer Raymond Floyd sold his Southampton estate

Raymond Floyd—a golfer who belongs to the World Golf Hall of Fame and has won four majors over the course of his career—put his 3-acre Southampton village estate on the market for nearly $25 million in August of 2017. Just over a year after he originally listed the compound, he found a buyer and sold the property for $16 million in September of this year.


Lasata, Jackie Kennedy’s summer house, sold

Even though most of the news surrounding Lasata happened last year, the actual sale occurred at the very beginning of 2018. Comprised of two separate parcels—a main house and land with just a grass tennis court—both properties sold in January to two different buyers. The main house sold for $24 million, and the empty parcel closed for $11.25 million.


Paul Manafort surrendered his Bridgehampton house in a plea deal

After Paul Manafort pleaded guilty to two charges of conspiracy during an investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller regarding Russian interference in the United State’s 2016 presidential election, he lost his Bridgehampton estate in a plea deal. A total of five properties were seized by the government, including four New York City properties.


Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo put her Sag Harbor house up for sale

In January, Ellen Pompeo listed her 8.3-acre Noyac property for $3,795,000. The incredible 2,400-square-foot farmhouse has since dropped its price to $3,495,000. She bought the house in 2011 for $925,000.
