After a long and intense battle over the last month, we’re happy to announce that the town of Amagansett has won the Curbed Cup for 2017!
Amagansett was off to a good start in the first round, beating out the 2016 runner-up and 2015 champion, Hampton Bays. In the second round, we knew that Amagansett was going to really be the town to look for this year when they advanced in front of Sag Harbor, last year’s winner and a town that has won multiple Curbed Cup competitions in the past.
When our champion went up against our fourth seed, East Hampton, we were on our toes not quiet knowing what to expect after Amagansett’s performance in the first two rounds, and finally they won the virtual trophy over Southampton in the last leg of the battle.
Its beachy vibe and relaxed quality is what gave Amagansett an edge in the competition this year, going against four East End towns that all have something that Amagansett lacks: a central village with shops and restaurants. While this year’s Curbed Cup winner does have a main street and is home to the Stephen Talkhouse and a farmer’s market, the main road is mostly just what people happen to drive through to get to and from Montauk.
Amagansett’s real winning factor this year was the ocean beaches and serving as an escape away from the hustle and bustle. When people come to the Hamptons, it’s to relax, right? And at the end of the year, what more could be on people’s minds than going to the beach and just kicking your feet up to chill out for a bit?
Be sure to follow Amagansett news coverage through 2018.
