The original Grey Gardens carriage house has gone up for sale for $9.5 million. Located at 132 Apaquogue Road in East Hampton, the house was built in 1896 by Joseph Greenleaf Thorpe, but has been fully updated. This is the first time that the home is available for sale in 56 years, according to the listing.

Located on a hedged acre of land in the Georgica section of East Hampton, the property is directly adjacent to the Grey Gardens property, which is visible in the aerial photos. The carriage house has gone up for sale not even a full month after the Grey Gardens home sold in December.

Standing 3,516 square feet in size, the home has five bedrooms and four full bathrooms, a paneled carriage room with a fireplace, a shaded terrace, and waterview balconies. Outside, there’s a heated pool and detached two-car garage.

If the new owner decides to expand, the property can accommodate a 5,511 structure, plus a finished lower level.

The home is listed under Sotheby’s International Realty agents Frank Newbold and Marilyn Clark.
