Editor's Note: This post was originally published in May 2016 and has been updated with the most recent information.

A year ago in May of 2016, Cyril Fitzsimmons closed down Cyril’s Fish House in Napeague, writing on his Facebook page:

Cyril's Fish house will be closing permanently due to various reasons involving the town of east Hampton's non cooperation.Cyril's has been a fixture here for more than 25 years .There will be huge yard sale on May 28th.everything from restaurant equipment, sealed can goods, pots ,microwaves .ovens.,artwork,pictures tables chairs ect .everything except the building..2 refridgerated containers are also available.

This is a very sad day that it has come to this ..

He continued:

East Hampton is out of control . The PC. Police r over the top this is not the place to get into this but this is long story of decieit

Without getting into the whys and wherefores, the place has been a safety hazard for years, frankly. Recently, of course, the owners of the land that Cyril’s is located on made some concessions to the town regarding occupancy, and Cyril's corporation was convicted of criminal violations.

We're not saying that local town government can't make it hard to run a business in the Hamptons, but Cyril's has clearly thumbed its nose at occupancy rules for years. We're sorry to see a local profitable business close and sorry it came to this.

The restaurant went into contract under listing agent Lee Minetree of Saunders Real Estate earlier this year for $1,495,000. A new restaurant is planned to take over the 1,050-square-foot space.
