Montauk is known for being the eastern-most point on Long Island, in addition to being one of the only places on the island where one can access the ocean, the bay, and the Long Island Sound.
Television sitcoms that take place in New York City (which is a good deal of them), often make a trek out to Montauk at least some point in the series. The final season of Girls starts in Montauk, where Hannah writes a story about a surf camp. The Montauk episode of Friends is the one in which Phoebe meets her birth mother and Monica gets stung by a jellyfish.
And, finally, it’s the point of interest for this week’s featured open houses.
