Hamptons homes are notorious for being a bit over the top. With a “typical” Hamptons mansion often spanning between 10,000-square-feet and sometimes even over 20,000-square-feet, it’s safe to say that the homes out east are pretty darn huge.
But many people don’t want to spend their summers in huge, expansive estates with so many amenities that they don’t even know what to do with all of them. Seriously, what does one do with 18,000-square-feet of space?
For that reason, all the open houses featured this week are under 2,500-square-feet.
The average home size in the United States is about 2,500-square-feet, so these homes fit just in that criterion or smaller. This number has increased over time—in 1973, the average home size was almost 1,000-square-feet smaller.
