Sagaponack was reported to have the priciest zip code for two years running in 2015 and 2016, but it looks like it’s lost its title for this past year, reported Hamptons.com and according to an analysis done by Property Shark. What was once the zip code with the most expensive real estate in the United States is now 15th on the list, with the No. 1 spot claimed by Atherton, California.
Known for its oceanfront properties and massive south-of-the-highway mansions, Sagaponack’s median sales price in 2016 was a whopping $5.5 million—but in 2017, that dropped all the way down to $2,819,000.
Of course, the Hamptons is still a leading area on the list, with Water Mill at No. 9 and a median sales price of $3,162,500, followed immediately by Wainscott at No. 10 with a median sales price of $3 million.
Other local towns you’ll recognize include Bridgehampton, Quogue, and Sag Harbor. Our Nassau county neighbors that made the list include Old Westbury, Manhasset, and Great Neck.
Out of the 100 zip codes listed, 77 of them were in the state of California. New York State is host to 19, and San Francisco had nine total rankings—making it the city with the most zip codes listed.
