Originally built in 1820, the nearly 200-year-old home at 224 Hill Street in Southampton village just listed for sale under Saunders Real Estate agent Jay Flagg for $3.85 million.
It was previously available to rent for $25,000 per month, and was listed for sale in 2011 for $2.35 million. It last sold in 2010 for $2.05 million, and before that in 2004 for $988,000.
Hill Street is a beloved location in Southampton village—and while it’s technically south of the highway, the distance from this Hill Street home to the ocean is still just under two miles—which would take about 40 minutes to walk.
A new addition to the 0.46-acre property includes a two-story pool house. The main house stands 2,712 square feet with four bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and one half bathroom.
While the restoration brings the home up to date and includes modern amenities that people now expect in Hamptons homes, it’s difficult to tell where the period details in the home are—if there are any. It looks like some features have been maintained, such as the wood flooring and the wood beams on the second level ceilings, but the rest of the home looks like it could have been built more recently rather than in 1820.
Notably, the kitchen has red cabinetry, which is a fun and unique feature to a traditional style home, making the whole space pop just a little bit. The home also has exposed brick on both the first and second levels.
The new two-story pool house has an open floor plan on the first level, with double-height living space.
