‘Island in the Sky’: newly renovated and $1M cut off the price

A Curbed Hamptons classic

It’s back again! Island in the Sky, the love letter to the 80s by Setsuo Ito, is back with a lower price (now $7.495M; was $1M in January this year) and with a "Total Interior/Exterior Renovation." Judging by the listing photos, the renovation didn’t go far enough: the interiors, as above, offer all the warmth of a jet lounge in a Kubrick movie.

The property, once featured in a Notorious B.I.G. video, was put on the market back in 2007 for a humorous $30M. It was eventually listed for $9.9M in 2011, before selling for a rather shocking $3M in September that year. Then it was put back on the market in 2012 for $10.975M. It did not sell then, possibly because a requirement of the previous sale is that the home cannot be torn down.

$7.495M includes the 12,000sf house, nine acres of land set at "the highest elevation in the Hamptons," the weirdly shaped pool, and that 32-foot tall pyramid. How much it will go for this time, we cannot say.
