What do you think about accessory apartments in East Hampton?

To ease the need for affordable housing, the East Hampton town board is considering allowing property owners to build detached structures, like garages, containing an apartment for rent. The rules would be that the units would have to be rented to year-round tenants, could only be located on properties at least a half acre, and would be limited to 20 units per school district. The owner would have to live on site, but could occupy the apartment and rent out the main house instead.

What do you think? A good way to provide income to homeowners who need it, and housing to year rounders, or intrusive to neighbors and stressful to septic systems? Vote below and have your say in the comments.
