Celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian chats with us about Harvest East End

Eater Hampton

Geoffrey Zakarian has had a rather storied career in the food industry as a chef, TV personality, and food consultant. Having opened opened several influential restaurants across the United States, Zakarian is currently a judge on Food Network’s Chopped. Referencing the current food scene, he said, "Today, I dine out all the time, first because I love it, but secondly because, as a chef, you need to see restaurants from the dining room perspective, not just from the kitchen. You have to be vigilant about every facet of the meal."

We caught up with this maestro of the meal and asked him a few questions about this year’s Harvest East End. Apparently, he’s not looking forward to any specific barrel tastings, but he has a real thing for French wine, more specifically champagne. As for the Hamptons, his favorite thing is the back roads, and we can’t say that we blame him for that. Here’s what the Iron Chef said to us.

You've been involved with many of Dan's food events in the Hamptons. What makes Harvest East End so special to you?

Well it's the people, really. Everyone is so into food and wine and so knowledgeable. It makes it so much fun.

Harvest really focuses on wine, so we're curious about what you drink. What type of wine do you crave? Why?

I don't crave wine, but I adore French white and all rosés, especially champagne.

What's the biggest mistake people make when cooking with wine?

They cook with wine they wouldn't drink.

What's your favorite thing about the Hamptons?

The back roads!!
