Scheffer Beauty in the Amagansett Dunes for $2.195M

Room for pool

This cottage used to be the guest house for 1940s East Hampton architect Alfred Scheffer's own home. (You have a good memory. We wrote about this property back in November 2013, the last time it was on the market.) It is on quite a large plot for the Amagansett Dunes, at .53 acre, stretching from Hampton Lane to Maidstone.

The house isn’t huge at 1400 square feet, with three bedrooms and two baths), but it’s very appealing with the living spaces opened up and painted white, and there are very nice weathered wood touches that add warmth. Outside, there’s hedges and plantings for privacy, along with a nice stone patio. A buyer could add a pool if desired, but the private ocean beach is just a few minutes’ walk away.

The asking price in 2013 was $1.595M; given the recent popularity of the Lanes and Dunes, we think $2.195M is a reasonable starting point in 2016.
