Oreya: Modern Mediterranean at the Capri in Southampton

Fresh and interesting flavors

Heeee’s back. Yep, local chef Greg Grossman, who rose to fame while a young teenager, and who we interviewed two years ago when he took over Georgica at the tender age of 19, is now the owner of the restaurant at the Capri, which was Beautique last year.

Grossman and fellow Blank Slate principal Evan Finkelstein have just opened Oreya, "a creative and innovative take on Mediterranean dining." Grossman says, "Our restaurant is designed for the guest who enjoys living life." Well, we’re out. "We understand that dining is an affair meant to be enjoyed with family and friends." The restaurant wants diners to feel like they have been whisked away to the Aegean. Grossman goes on, "Dining should be an all-encompassing night out, an experience." Fair enough.

The food draws inspiration from the cuisines of Greece, the Riviera, and Turkey, along with coastal regions. Our pals over at the Hampton Bee say that two sample menu items include crispy beluga lentils and roasted carrot tartare with harissa. We don’t understand how a roasted carrot is "tartare," but it sounds tasty anyway.
