A New Bravo Reality Show is Filming in Montauk

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water

Just when we thought Montauk might be losing some of its par-TAY image, news comes that a production company is filming a new reality series, Summer House (working title; also seems to be known as Beach House), for Bravo in the town. According to various sources, 10 episodes have been ordered with a $5M budget.

Back in April, Variety wrote about the project.

For years this group of friends has spent their weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day in one of the most exclusive beach areas on the East Coast. These professionals may keep it together during the week, but as soon as they hit the beach on the weekend, they let loose in a big, aspirational way that is exclusive to this high-end lifestyle.

The waitwithus site says about the show:

Are there any shows similar to Summer House?

While we aren’t quite sure of the details of the show, it will be a reality show with a bunch of partiers, so any of the Real Housewives franchise will have the similar drama. Jersey Shore is the iconic reality show taking place on the east coast about partiers at a beach house. Fans of Jersey Shore will likely enjoy Beach House. [emphasis added]

Ugh, seriously? Supervisor Cantwell stated on Facebook that East Hampton Town denied the company a permit for filming; however, from what we understand, no permit is needed if the company films on private property.

It certainly looks from this job posting for a production assistant that filming is going ahead; a number of businesses and property owners have been approached about filming. Stay tuned.
