Everyone with kids and pets knows that the easier things are to clean in a home, the better the home will look for family life. The owners of this home in Hampton Bays wanted a more sophisticated feel for their home for entertaining, but everything had to be easily cleanable as well. They turned to interior designer Barbara Feldman for help.
The front of the house was expanded to accommodate a larger, more family friendly kitchen. Barbara's design included an island with prep sink, second dishwasher, and room for seating. She added a child friendly drink station, wine and drink cooler and storage for glasses that allows everyone to get what they want without interfering with the cooking process.
The walls that separated the sunroom from the dining, living, and kitchen areas were opened up for increased visual access and communication. The ceiling was raised and doors and windows to better access the yard, pool and grilling areas. A breakfast table which also serves as an informal dining table when grilling or entertaining was added on one side of the room; on the opposite side a small sectional and media cabinet serve as a TV area. Radiant heating was installed to make room usable all year round.
What makes this family friendly? Every chair and rug in the living and dining rooms are bleach cleanable as well as intrinsically soil and odor resistant. Not to mention the price, an affordable $60,000.
