Historic Windmill House in Westhampton Beach for $4.5M

New, 5 comments

A former working windmill was added to the house

This rambling old mansion, in the lovely estate section of Westhampton Beach, is loaded with charm and period details. Built in 1894, there's about 5300 square feet of room, including eight bedrooms and six bathrooms in the main part of the house and an additional two bedrooms in an attached caretaker's cottage. The jewel of the house is the former working windmill, which a previous owner converted and added to the house. This now contains two bedrooms, and if the beams were uncovered, there would be vaulted ceilings (although we like the quirky ceilings as they are). There are numerous fireplaces (the Photoshopped fires in the listing are amusing).

Not pictured is the kitchen, curiously: the listing says, "The kitchen has been recently updated and outfitted with stainless steel appliances." Yes, some of the decoration is a little tired and could use updating, but the house seems basically fine as is.

The 1.71-acre plot takes up the entire block, offering extra privacy, and affords enough room for a gunite pool with pool house and tennis court, along with plenty of rolling lawn. As for the $4.5M asking price, who knows, the property is unique. Someone out there please buy it and take care of it.
