Excellent news, carb lovers! The Hampton Bee reports this morning that Goldberg's Famous Bagels is taking over the Twice Upon a Bagel location in Wainscott. The store, which sold for $1.6M via Saunders, will be re-opening in April. (Most importantly: we’ll never have to look at the Twice Upon a Bagel sign, with its twee typeface, pointless ellipsis, and "It’s no fairytale" slogan, ever again. Phew.)
Next: May 3 is the date set for jury selection in a criminal trial in the East Hampton Town Justice Court against the owners of Cyril’s Fish House in Napeague. As most of you know, Cyril’s has been embroiled in controversy for years; most of the 248 charges levied against the owners date from 2014, when the restaurant/bar was issued a restraining order and ultimately lost its liquor license, although a judge stayed the order until after the summer. According to the East Hampton Star, Cyril’s has been issued a liquor license for this year from April 1 through Halloween, but that’s contingent on a valid certificate of occupancy. A number of the East Hampton charges are for lacking a valid C of O; if the owners lose the case, the New York State Liquor Authority would review the liquor license.
The criminal charges are a separate case from the civil lawsuit the town filed against the owners. That case also involves violations of the town’s building and zoning codes, but it’s on hold while the criminal case proceeds. Is it closing time for Cyril’s?
