An updated Bates modern near the bay in East Hampton

New, 7 comments

From 1981

This Harry Bates-designed contemporary was built in 1981. It’s recently been sensitively updated with a new kitchen in keeping with the design and two new baths. That there are only two baths is of course one of the issues with many older homes in our area: they were built before the mania for huge numbers of bedrooms each with an en-suite. There are three bedrooms in the 2000 square foot house, so two bathrooms seemed fine in 1981.

So that’s one caveat of the property. The other is the front facade, which to us looks like “medical office building,” not “home,” but maybe we’re being picky. Good features include just under an acre of land including attractive mature plantings, a funky oversized living room fireplace, pool out back, “meditation hut,” and attractive wrought iron gates. This is all in the Northwest, near the bay and Cedar Point Park. Asking price is $1.595M. What do you think?
