Montauk was in the news often this year, although fortunately the problems with noise and rowdy drunks has quietened a good bit. A number of new restaurants opened, including Tauk at Trail’s End and Arbor, and the Residences at Gurney’s, formerly the Panoramic View, ultra-high-end oceanfront units, began selling well. Naomi Watts purchased a home in Surfside and the entire Gosman’s Dock complex was offered for sale for $52M. In January, a Bravo reality series called “Summer House” with Montauk prominently featured will premiere.

The Northwest Woods has plenty to offer too: there are plenty of great parks, bay beaches, and of course woods. Peace and quiet abounds in this corner of East Hampton, which is still relatively uncrowded, and offers reasonably priced properties. It's easy to get to Sag Harbor or East Hampton village shops and restaurants, too. In real estate news, an original Gwathmey sold in July and Sean “Diddy” Combs offered his home for rent for the first time.
