In Water Mill, a traditional Hamptons farmhouse has been renovated by Desai Chia Architecture, who added an extension meant as "expressive counterpoint" to the main dwelling. The single story, 1600 square foot addition is clad in gray-stained shingles as in the main house, but features a folded roofline and form meant as a reinterpretation of vernacular architecture. The living room, dining and kitchen were moved into the new addition.
The first floor of the cottage was renovated and converted into a family room, home office and guest bedroom suite.
The glass of the addition reinforces the relationship between the outdoors, including the pool, and the indoors.
