Vic and Dena Hammel weren't looking for a new house, but they fell in love with a new build just three doors away on Mecox Road. Designed by architect James Merrell, the minimal barn-style house is unusual and understated. Replacing a circa-1800 farmhouse on the property, the house was designed as "a modern house bursting from a colonial," says Merrell. Traditional-meets-modern interiors include fine oak paneling, no hallways and a staircase with a custom oil-rubbed bronze handrail; furniture includes 1930s seating from Heal's of London and 1970s end tables by George Nelson.
