Some of us here at Curbed are slightly obsessed with collecting evidence of Montauk's past. The place has been a tourist draw even before Carl Fisher tried to turn it into the Miami Beach of the North. Back before cheap film and cellphones, travelers sent postcards to their friends to let them know where they'd been vacationing; our collection includes some postcards and other paper items—a collecting category known as ephemera. We have more images waiting to be scanned, so expect Part II someday; if you have any old image you'd like to share regarding any Hamptons town, please get in touch. Enjoy!
