After a contentious East Hampton Town Board meeting last night, where the Army Corps of Engineers' work to shore up downtown Montauk was debated, a number of protestors formed a human chain to block the bulldozers this morning. Three people were arrested. Quoted in the East Hampton Star, Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell said that the project plans had been discussed for two years, and "We saw little opposition to this project, frankly, over that period of time, until fairly recently."
What do you think? Is the project needed to save the downtown, or a money-wasting boondoggle that will destroy the beach? Let us know in the comments and vote.
