Uber May Be Returning to East Hampton Next Year

New, 27 comments

One of the big issues of Summer '15 was the banning of Uber in East Hampton after the town changed the taxi licensing law to require that cabs be registered locally. Now Governor Cuomo is suggesting statewide licensing for taxi drivers so that ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft can operate. Quoted in the East Hampton Press, State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. said, "Usually, when he floats these ideas in the fall, they have a way of showing up as legislation in January. […] I would expect the legislature to have some discussions on it come 2016." Stay tuned.
