Is Philip Johnson's Farney House a Goner?

New, 11 comments

The historic and important Farney House in Sagaponack was designed by Philip Johnson in 1946, before his famous Glass House. It spent several years on the market before being purchased last year by hedge funder Zachary Schreiber and wife Lori for $24M. They want to replace the modern structure with a new house to be designed by Robert A.M. Stern, the father of postmodernism. Unfortunately, efforts to save the building by moving it have failed—reportedly, several people were interested, but all efforts have fallen through. Barring some kind of deus ex machina, this house will be demolished soon. It's not been a good year for Philip Johnson in the Hamptons.
