After years of back and forth with East Hampton Town about zoning violations, Cyril's Fish House has lost its liquor license. On Tuesday, the state liquor authority canceled the license. Chairman Dennis Rosen said at the New York State Liquor Authority meeting, "Clearly there's been a long-time disrespect displayed by the licensee. Just confining ourselves to the minutes of the hearing, the way they keep doing whatever they wanted to do, and there may be arguable defense to some of these things, but it's clear they don't answer to anybody. That scares me because there are people drinking alcohol. They're wandering onto the highway… This could create very a dangerous situation and the one thing the board has to do is protect the safety of the public." Ah, we see you've been to Napeague, Mr. Rosen! However, the order of cancellation doesn't take effect for some weeks, so anyone wanting to get drunk and wander onto Montauk Highway is free to do so until at least Labor Day. And of course, the owners plan to appeal.
