The EH Garden Club Celebrates 100 Years with a Flower Show

2014 marks the 100 year anniversary of the Garden Club of East Hampton. To celebrate, the club will host a Garden Club of America flower show called "It's About Time" on July 24th at Mulford Farm, with free admission. The show will feature floral design, horticulture, photography, and botanical arts submitted by members of the Garden Club of East Hampton and other GCA clubs, as well as a conservation and education exhibits. An exhibit called "Trees through Time" will examine a hundred years of East Hampton trees, with suggestions for your own sustainable planting.

This will be one of a number of events for the club's centennial year, with the theme "Mrs. Woodhouse Presents…" named in honor of founding president Mrs. Lorenzo E. Woodhouse. (Mrs. Woodhouse seems to have been a fascinating person. She financed the restoration of Clinton Academy and founded Guild Hall. Her garden was featured in Beautiful Gardens of America, published 1915, and she and her husband were defendants in an alienation of affection lawsuit brought by her daughter-in-law, for which they had to pay damages of $465,000—quite a tidy sum in 1922!)
