Pore Over Historic Hamptons Maps from NYPL

New, 6 comments

This is a great week for history nuts and map lovers. The New York Public Library has put 20,000 historic maps online, free to use and download via Creative Commons. Many of them have enhanced zoom so you can drill down deep. (Click the links to get a really good look.)

And if you want to have even more fun with maps, play with the NYPL's map warper tool. With this tool, you can overlay an historic map onto a current map, simply matching points. The last picture is a warped map we did of East Hampton.

The Hamptons aren't enough for you fancy cityfolk? Take a look at New York City historical maps brought to you by the good folks at Curbed NY. Have fun!
