A long-aborning plan to develop the land immediately east of the Water Mill Shoppes on Montauk Highway may come to fruition soon in the form of 48 townhouses. The 6.4 acres of land is currently zoned for office space, but local citizens prefer the idea of residential development. The developers, Philip Young and Joel Kaye, will apply to Southampton Town for a zone change. The development would not have direct access to Montauk Highway; instead it would face Nowedonah Avenue.
