Indulge Your Inner Innkeeper Buying a Hamptons Hostelry

Always wanted to run your own hotel? Of course! We've rounded up some hotels, motels, and B&Bs to make your own. They run the gamut from pricey to cut-rate; from luxurious to modest; from oceanfront to obscure. Leaving out Montauk motels, which we've covered before, hotels for sale are rather thin on the ground, so some are (whisper) west of the canal.

The Grassmere
7 Beach Lane, Westhampton Beach; Elliman
Price: $1.655M
Guestrooms: 12, plus staff bedrooms and 2100sf house
Acreage: 1.3 acres
The Skinny: Centrally located and less than a mile from the beach, the Grassmere Inn was built in 1885, so it features loads of charm. It has a loyal clientele who come back year after year.

Chequit Inn
23 Grand Ave, Shelter Island Heights; Georgiana Ketchum
Price: $5M
Guestrooms: 35, including three buildings
Acreage: 1.0 acres
The Skinny: Yes, you remember correctly. Cape Advisors, the builders of Watchcase, were going to buy this inn if some conditions, including a permit for a pool, were met. The deal fell apart and the Chequit is back on the market. The pool permit is still good, though.

The Dune Deck
379 Dune Road, Westhampton Beach; Elliman
Price: $17.99M
Guestrooms: 71, with four buildings
Acreage: 8.46 acres
The Skinny: The 65-year-old Dune Deck includes four buildings, a restaurant, bar, oceanside Olympic-size pool, basketball court and two tennis courts. It also sports 8.46 acres of prime Dune Road property, if you'd rather own a huge oceanfront mansion instead of a motel.

The Village Latch
101 Hill Street, Southampton; Corcoran
Price: $23M
Guestrooms: 12
Acreage: 5.24 acres
The Skinny: The hundred-year old inn has been on the market for years with no takers. The price has also been all over the place: two years ago, it was $19M; now it's been priceupped a few million. Beats us! It's still a pedigreed beauty in an unbeatable location.

La Maison Blanche
11 Stearns Point Road, Shelter Island; Saunders
Price: $3.195M
Guestrooms: 8
Acreage: 2.2 acres
The Skinny: Gorgeous turnkey boutique hotel that reportedly does good business, with beautifully landscaped grounds and that all-important pétanque court, at a reasonable price. So what's the catch? The current owners are suing each other. Let's all back away slowly now…

Bel Aire Cove
20 Shinnecock Road, Hampton Bays; BHS
Price: $1.495M; Bitcoins welcome!
Guestrooms: 20, plus three bedroom owners' house
Acreage: 1.5 acres
The Skinny: Last and definitely least, the Bel Aire Cove features "daily made service" and a slew of bad online reviews. Our favorite: "I should have listend to the other reviews on here.. but I went anyway. I stayed for a friends bachelorette party. We didn't know what we were getting our selves into when it was booked. The AC, light, toilits and locks did not work. But the thing that made us get up at 3am and drive home from there back to Wantaugh (yes 3AM!)..... was the bed bugs... which infested not only the beds.. but the whole room. Little red fussy bugs. If you booked this place... get out now. I am not paying for my room. 80 dollars each... 6 people.. 2 rooms. That is LUDICRIS! I am venting because I am still so angry!"
