The Sagaponack Village Board, annoyed that Southampton Town Highway Supervisor Alex Gregor is planning an unpopular renovation to the bridge over Sagg Pond, is considering ways for the village to take it over. Mayor Louchheim said, "Why do we need railings that are rated for the Long Island Expressway on a bucolic country road where we have not had any accidents?" And, "Twenty-five years ago, when [Southampton] took it over [from Suffolk County], they made an implicit commitment to preserve the goddamn bridge. And now they're just reneging on that."
