Wish Pyrrhus Concer a Happy 200th Birthday on March 22

Southampton's very own Pyrrhus Concer, a celebrated whaler and former slave, will be the subject of a lecture, birthday party, and exhibition next month. The fun starts on March 22 beginning at 2PM, when historic preservationist Sally Spanburgh will lecture about Concer's fascinating life, including his family, his homestead, his whaling voyages and his sailboat service on Lake Agawam. Afterwards will be a panel discussion and then a birthday party with poetry and music. The exhibition "Pyrrhus Concer: Born a Slave, Died a Philanthropist," at the Rogers Mansion, will open that day.
