Curbed Cup 1st Round: (7) Sagaponack vs. (3) Bridgehampton

New, 7 comments

The Curbed Cup, our annual award to the Hamptons neighborhood of the year, is kicking off with 8 towns/villages/hamlets vying for the prestigious fake trophy. This week we'll have one matchup per day, and all the results and the full tourney bracket will be reviewed on Friday. Voting for each pairing ends 24 hours after it begins. Please remember—no wagering.

Hoping for the win this year is a village that is home to some of the area's priciest real estate: Sagaponack. This year, Billy Joel finally sold his place on Gibson Lane. New agency Bespoke Real Estate asked $60M for nonoceanfront property in the burg. David Tepper's oceanfront megamansion was finally completed, and party animal Marc Leder bought on Sagg Main. Longtime resident Peter Matthiessen died. And in WTF news, resident Stephanie Seymour posed for an inexplicably sexy photo shoot with her sons.

In Bridgehampton, as always, polo and the Hampton Classic were places to see and be seen this summer. Plans for a CVS were vigorously protested. RHONY's Countess LuAnn finally sold her house, to Joe Farrell, who is building a much larger residence there. Speaking of Farrell, he apparently was able to rent his house, the Sandcastle, for $300K for one week this summer. Presumably not paying that much was Simon Cowell, who rented in the town. The "StadiumRed" party house on Middle Line Highway was shut down. The Hampton Designer Showhouse opened on Pauls Lane, and a new development, Barn & Vine, took root in the northern part of the town.
