East Hampton Seeks to Clamp Down on New Hotel Nightclubs

New, 3 comments

The town of East Hampton is considering new legislation to prevent hotels from transforming into de facto nightclubs. This law would not apply to currently operating facilities like the Surf Lodge or the Montauk Beach House. Under the proposed rule, any hostelry planning to open a restaurant would have to have at least 25 guest rooms and the restaurant would have to be no larger than 20 percent of the size of the hotel or 2000sf, whichever is less. In addition, adequate parking for restaurant patrons as well as hotel guests would have to be provided.
