Development of the thirteen acres of empty land opposite Bridgehampton Commons could be speeded up, according to Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst. She told the Bridgehampton Citizens Advisory Committee last week that the town could quickly complete a study to have the land designed as a planned development district or PDD. The plan include 90,000sf of retail and residential space, with barnlike buildings as a nod to Bridgehampton's agricultural heritage and pedestrian-friendly walkways. 36 housing units are planned: eight at market value and the rest "community benefit units." Retailers for the Bridgehampton Gateway development would include an Equinox gym; developer Greg Konner says he won't have trouble filling the space.
