Scientists to Help East Hampton Choose Montauk Coastal Plan

New, 2 comments

The Army Corps of Engineers is expected soon to present a formal report, with analysis and costs, for erosion control of Montauk ocean beaches. To help choose a plan quickly (otherwise, federal funds might be spent elsewhere), the East Hampton Town Board will accept the guidance of three coastal experts. Robert S. Young, a professor of coastal geology at Western Carolina University, is director of a program for study of developed shorelines. Henry J. Bokuniewicz is a professor of oceanography at SUNY Stony Brook's School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. Jay Tanski is a specialist at New York Sea Grant, a program run by SUNY and Cornell that has been coordinating federal and local efforts for Sandy recovery.
