The days are getting shorter, there's a nip in the air?it's time for chowder! Columbus Day weekend, October 12 and 13, the Montauk Chamber of Commerce will kick off its fall festival with its famous clam chowder contest. Over 30 local restaurants contribute gallons of their best chowder. Food personality judges will determine the best New England and Manhattan chowders; there's also a People's Choice Award for the popular vote.
There are plenty of non-soup-related activities as well, including things for kids like inflatable rides, pumpkin decorating, crab races, and a free carousel. For adults there will be live music, Oktoberfest style food, clams and oysters, and Long Island wines and beer. Free transportation by Hampton Jitney will be provided between other South Fork festivals to Montauk that weekend. Saturday night, the Chamber of Commerce will present a unique fireworks display by Grucci. The dazzling pyrotechnics show will blast off at 7PM on Umbrella Beach.
