Poll: Should Dogs Be Leashed on the Beach?

A reader emailed us: "Yeah, I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I don't care. I live in Amagansett Dunes, and watched last Saturday in dismay as little kids as well as adults were bothered by at least 10 to 12 unleashed dogs, who ran with impunity because they and the owners were not within 500 feet of Atlantic Beach. When I am half asleep in the sun, I don't need my time disrupted by someone's dog coming up to sniff and lick me. And then have the owner come grab the dog with a half-hearted apology. Keep them leashed. And I love dogs!"

We also love dogs, and we have to keeps ours leashed on the beach because otherwise we'll never see them again, so we have no dog in this fight, as it were. We can't say we've ever been bothered by unleashed dogs on the beach, though.
