East Hampton is going to apply for a federal grant to bury the power lines running along Old Montauk Highway from the village center to Napeague. These lines are very close to the ocean and vulnerable during storms. The project is expected to cost $8 million. However, the town has not decided how to pay for the project even if it wins the competitive grant; if it does, East Hampton has to do the work and then apply for reimbursement, which might cause cash-flow problems.
