Community supported agriculture (CSAs) have become popular in recent years. CSA members pay at the beginning of the season for a share of the crop; once harvesting begins, they receive weekly shares of produce. This way, farmers and consumers share the risks and benefits. What about applying this concept to fishing? That's what Dock to Dish in Montauk is aiming to find out. Consumers would purchase a share of a fisherman's catch over a set period of time. Local fishermen get community support and local people eat more fresh fish, learning along the way more about native fish, sustainability, quotas, seasonality, and so on.
