East Hampton Town Officials Can't Agree on Montauk Brewing Company Fee

New, 4 comments

Yet another throwdown among East Hampton Town officials. Montauk Brewing Company opened a storefront and tasting room in Montauk last year. Their beer, Driftwood Ale, is brewed upstate, but the team plans to install brewing equipment on site. But when they went to East Hampton town officials for a permit, they were informed that they would either have to install three more parking spots in front of their premises or pay a $45,000 fee. Neither option is feasible now for the fledgling company. Some town officials favor waiving the fee in order to encourage local business, while others find that proposal unfair. So far, no resolution to the matter is in sight.
