At yesterday's meeting, the East Hampton Village Board once again discussed the burning issue of restricting dogs on village beaches. Too much dog poop is being left on the beach. New rules might include allowing dogs only "on the beach east of Two Mile Hollow Beach and west of the westerly jetty on Georgica Beach." Another idea is allowing dogs only within 300 or 500 feet of the beach entrances. Author Steven Gaines told the board "The only thing I'm really afraid of is that somebody is going to come forward and ban dogs on the beach altogether and that would be a great tragedy. That's part of our culture, that's actually part of our heritage," he said.
